This website is run by Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW). We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website.

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
- Some of our playlists have incorrect heading structures. Headings communicate the organisation of the content on the page. Assistive technologies use them to provide in-page navigation. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (level A) and criterion 2.4.6 (level AA). We will work with the platform supplier to fix this issue by September 2020.
- Some of our playlists do not feature clear visual cues showing which item is in focus. Users who are reliant on a keyboard to navigate a website use the tab key to cycle through the links on a page. A visual cue is required to highlight which link is currently in focus. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.7 (level AA). We will work with the platform supplier to fix this issue by September 2020.
- Our playlists contain a number of embedded videos which do not currently feature a text alternative or audio descriptions. Transcripts or subtitles can be used to convey the information within the videos to hearing impaired users. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criteria 1.2.1, 1.2.2. and 1.2.3 (level A) and audio description success criterion 1.2.5 (level AA). We will work with our video suppliers to fix this issue by September 2020.
- The contrast on the playlist titles is not sufficient. A combination of text and background colour should be set to create an easy to read website. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.3. (level AA). We will work with the platform supplier to fix this.
Disproportionate burden
Some accessibility issues may be a disproportionate burden to fix. We are currently in the process of assessing the cost of fixing the issues with navigation and accessing information, and with interactive tools and transactions. We will make a full assessment with the platform supplier and auditor, further information to follow by September 2020.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
PDFs and other documents
Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs with information on how users can access our services, and forms published as Word documents. By September 2020, we plan to either fix these or replace them with accessible HTML pages.
Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
Live video
We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
Third party content
Where the site links out to third party content, this is clearly referenced as such and is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations that are within our control.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
It is our intention to continue to improve accessibility with regular internal and external audits.
