Most issues won't go away unless you address them and there are lots of people who would be happy to support you in having a conversation to help you build and improve your working relationships if you really feel that you can't do this alone.
- Your line manager (or their manager if you prefer)
- A Trade Union Representative
- Member of human resources
Where things go wrong, it’s normally important for us to tell someone so things don’t become worse, as that harms us all. Resolving things quickly is less stressful for everyone involved. Before you speak to your manager, TU rep or HR you need to consider what the resolution is that you hope to achieve. What would need to change to solve the problem that you are facing. You need to be clear not just about what the problem is, but how it can be solved. If you’re not sure what this is or what might be possible, they will be able to help. The following questions may help you put your thoughts together. You can complete them on your own or with support.
- What is bothering/upsetting you?
- Who are the poeple invloved?
- Who have you talked to about this? What actions have you already taken?
- What would you like to happen next?
- Is there anything you can / should do to change what’s happening?
- What’s your next step? What do you need to do? What do you need someone else to do?
